The Fishing Village

The site of this project is located in Tatai Village, Tatai Commune, Smachmenchhey district, Koh Kong province. Its distance is about 20 km from the town(Koh Kong). It is situated on the north side of Tatai bridge, National Highway 48. This resort prepares people for the historical journey to Tatai Waterfall by letting them understand the history of the Tatai people which is basically the life of a fisherman as the fishing is the habitual and cultural activity of the people there at Tatai. So this resort is to prepare them first by letting them experience the fishing life at the resort as the understanding of the historical people there before they start the journey.

The Concept

We start by tracing the Tatai River Route to get a sense of how our resort would be laid up. Then we begin to organize all 18 of our units into the resort, taking into account the vistas, practical issues, and privacy.

Conceptual Form

We do a study on Khmer Fishing House to see how fishermen live because we want to create a sense of fisherman's life experience for the guests who stay in our resort. Then we found the characteristics of fishing house:

More doors connect from outside to the inside of the house
Toilet Can be both access from outside and inside
Open cooking space
Main entry facing to the water

After that, we select key features from the fishing house to incorporate into our hut design. The roof's outcome was that it essentially followed the area beneath it. The roof's character, as we aim to adhere to Khmer Traditional Architecture in order to transmit the feeling of Khmer Living to our design.
